Blogging Newbie
Ok, so i finally did it! I created a blog which I guess even a monkey could do...but whatever! I'm finally here. Be patient as I teach myself Blogging 101. My days on the crazy east coast will come to end one day and I figure I should share my experiences with family and friends.
Just a quick recap...
I moved to Philadelphia in October of 2005. No reason really... Needing change played the biggest part. My best friend Rachel lived (lives actually) there and told me to come out. I thought... why not? Never been there, no job and I only know one person!! Probably the scariest thing I've ever done, but a blessing in disguise. I moved out here and started looking for a job. No luck with anything I really wanted, so I got a job serving for the Olive Garden which I honestly thought would be only for a few weeks. Well, one thing led to another and I started training (which I love!) and then working in the office. Soon after that I went to open a new OG in Connecticut. I can't even begin to tell you how much fun it is to live in a hotel for almost a month in Waterbury, Connecticut in the middle of March... I wouldn't advise it. Anyway, I got home from Connecticut and was promoted to management about a month later. I did my training in Delaware and was then transferred as a Service Manager to beautiful? Bowie, Maryland to fix an underperforming restaurant. This restaurant tends to take managers and chew them up and spit them out. Somehow I've managed to last more than a year which is more than most can say! We're still underperforming in some areas but greatly improved and right on the edge of being one of the top performing restaurants in the company. I was also made the regional training point manager which means I head up the training for my region which is 8 restaurants spread out between Maryland, Pennsylvania and Delaware. My goal is to end up in front line training in the corporate offices in Florida. I love and hate my job all at the same time.... It's extremely time consuming, stressful, and I feel like I have 160 children instead of employees. (I now know why mom hated having her name called some days...) But, I love seeing the changes that are being made, love being a part of this business, love speaking with happy guests, love meeting so many different people, love being a part of this company.
I am going a bit crazy living in Maryland being so far away from friends and especially family. But I'm 20 minutes from Baltimore, Annapolis, and DC which makes for some pretty fun times. Keep posted and I'll do my best to keep everyone updated!
